What are strongholds? A stronghold, according to Merian Webster's dictionary, is a fortified place; a structure offering resistance to a hostile force. Cindy Jacobs of Generals of Intercession says, "a stronghold is a fortified place that Satan builds to exalt himself against the knowledge of God. Satan clearly cloaks strongholds under the guise of culture."Strongholds are forceful, stubborn arguments of the mind that people hold on to eventhough they know they should change. Paul said in Ephesians 6:12, that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Here, he enumerates the types of spirits we are in battle with.In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Paul says that our weapons of warfare are not carnal but are mighty to the casting down of strongholds. Strongholds are reasonings, opinions and ideas that we sometimes hold on to that are contrary to the scriptures.
